Role: Platform Architect
Context
A bank required a new digital banking platform with domain boundaries, integration standards and a scalable operating model.
Tension
The architecture needed to support a large service landscape without collapsing responsibilities into channel logic or direct core coupling.
Scope
A seven-layer banking architecture aligned to BIAN, separating experience, BFF, orchestration, domain, adapters, integration and core concerns.
Architecture
BIAN-aligned domains, contract-first APIs and event-driven patterns, with layer-specific error handling, observability and resilience defined as platform standards rather than per-team choices.
Result
Platform in production as of September 2026.
Lessons
Separating the layers at design time is what makes the service count sustainable: without explicit boundaries a landscape this size converges on channel logic.
